Papaw's Birthday

In honor of Papaw's 70th birthday, we joined him at a square dance. He dances very well with a partner who is probably 10 or so years older. This was an anniversary dance with an Old West theme, which included a jail. Paul and TJ loved swearing out a warrant for $1 to have someone thrown in jail for the length of one song. I won two items in the silent auction/raffle!

The photographer got some really good shots:

The Truth Hurts

Straight hair is still ok, but I've seen lots of curled styles lately. Lacking the patience for curlers, I went out and bought a curling iron. Using it reminded me of all the time I spent curling my hair in junior high and high school. I did not poof my bangs; they are side-swept. That's really the main difference from the 80s and 90s. After primping and hairspraying, it was time to take Paul to school.

As I buckled TJ, he asked, "What's wrong with your hair?"

Paul looked at me and said, "Yeah, your hair is all shaggy."

"It doesn't look good?"

"No, it's shaggy," TJ agreed with Paul.

"How about yesterday? Did it look ok then?"

"Yeah," shrugged Paul.

When I returned home, I pulled it back into a very non-80s low side pony tail; we wore high side pony tails in the 80s. Oh well, it was a rainy day. I'll try it again soon.

Confession

TJ: Mom, the thing Paul draws on broke.
Meredith: The green thing? His lap desk?
TJ: Yes.
Meredith: What happened?
TJ: Well, I didn't know it could break.
Meredith: What were you doing when it broke?
TJ: Jumping on it.
Meredith: Ahh.

I Think I'm a Bunny!

There's a song on Kids Place Live that gets that line stuck in my head. "I think I'm a bunny. I think I'm a bunny. I think I'm a bunny!" How's this for a bunny?

Meet "Bugs." Original, I know. Coker and I proposed every interesting name we could imagine, but the only name TJ would consider besides "Larry" (which was the one name Paul vetoed) was "Bugs."
Luckily, Bugs is pretty relaxed. Our "bunny whisperer" neighbor thinks she's a girl, but it's really too soon to tell. She tolerates the boys' attention pretty well. She's not too afraid of Libby, Amina's dog. Bugs doesn't stay out of her cage long with Libby here.
Tonight, Libby thought she had Bugs cornered, but Bugs snuck out between Libby's legs and hopped around behind her while Libby watched the corner where Bugs had disappeared behind a bag of bunny bedding. Sneaky rabbit!

Beware of Quack Quack

The boys keep setting traps for Coker. He was summoned into the living room where a piece of candy was waiting. When he stood on the target marked with an "X," TJ called, "quack quack," and Paul dropped a pillow on Coker's head. He's worried he may be killed like Piggy in Lord of the Flies.

Color Run

Paul and I walked in the Color Run this morning. It's a 5k in which volunteers throw colored powder on the runners every 1k. Here's cool dude before the race.
And here's the after.Close up. Isn't he cute? And the two of us. Sunglasses kept the powder out of my eyes and hid my un-made face.

Not even our shoes were missed. I'm washing now. We'll see how it all comes out.

Never did find our friends, but Paul and I had fun!

TJ's 5th Birthday Party

TJ wanted a party at Chuck E. Cheese with a Mario Kart theme. I think he really had fun.
Here's the cake, and here are his friends. We had a great turn out. Parker G, Paul, Parker O, Marshall, Alec, Zach, Susanna, Mia, Owen, Ty, Parker V, and Easton are around the table.

Of course Chuck E came out.

TJ got to catch tickets in the ticket blaster. He could take a friend in with him, so he and Parker grabbed as many as they could.
He's flanked by Parkers as he opens presents. Zach got in there, too.

Paul and TJ are wearing their "Mario mustaches" with papa, who doesn't need a stick-on version.

Stickers and a mustache. What a cute five-year-old!
