What TJ Wants to be When He Grows Up

TJ decided to tell me what he wants to be when he grows up. A scientist, so he can use a magnifying glass. Hooray for me; I got him a cute magnifying glass for his Easter basket this year. He also wants to be a mailman or a server. On further questioning, by server he means pizza delivery. I think he really likes getting the mail and having pizza delivered.

TJ's Stats

I didn't get TJ in to see Dr. Dalton for his 4-year check-up until March 2. Bad mom! He was (officially) 41.5 inches tall and 37.6 pounds. Don't ask me about 4-year-old pictures!

Kindergarten Show

The kindergarten show was very cute. The kids had assigned colors to wear, depending on the song they would sing at the front of the stage. Here's Paul singing about yellow and signing. That's Tabb beside him.
Paul is "star student" this week. It's chosen at random, but he brings pictures from home on Monday and a new object everyday. He gives clues about the object and the class guesses what it could be. Monday: binoculars, Tuesday: legos and Wednesday: hulk glove. His teacher interviewed him at the beginning of the week. Favorite color: yellow, favorite food: fruit, something I'm good at: air hockey, favorite part of school: free choice, favorite game: Operation, what I want to be when I grow up: a costume designer. This was the end of the closing song. It's a little shaky because I was focused on listening, not recording. OK, a lot shaky.

Hint: keep moving your mouse over the recording until the arrow turns red, and then click.

Computer Trouble

TJ played games on pbskids.org after I get to the website for him today on the upstairs computer. I went downstairs and worked on several things. TJ complained that the computer wasn't doing what he wanted it to do. Eventually, he said he doesn't like the upstairs computer, came downstairs and asked me to set up the laptop for him. I just checked out the desktop where TJ played. Several windows were open: address book, iphoto along with the internet. I identified his main problem: the mouse was upside down. I guess that's why the computer wouldn't do what he wanted.

Monday Monday

My Mondays are not anyone else's Monday. Two out of three are actually glorious. I grocery shop, spend time with TJ and take care of whatever needs care. One of three is the day after my four-day stent working. I know, poor me, four whole days of work. It's rough, I tell you, and I am tired on those Mondays. And. There's a messy house that hasn't been cleaned in four days and four days worth of laundry waiting for me, plus the grocery shopping and sweet TJ.

This Monday was a Monday after a working weekend. I was tired and I had a doctor's appointment. Coker was nice enough to stay home to watch sweet TJ because it was the type of appointment that would have been traumatic for a little boy.

It was also Valentine's Day. I thought I would be sneaky and take Coker's car so I could have it detailed on the way home as his gift. His car was yucky! I casually said, "I'm taking your car, OK?"

"Be sure and get it washed."

Gotta love Coker's sense of humor. "Ha ha." Did he see a weird look on my face?

At my appointment, I decided to go ahead and have a procedure the next day instead of "waiting and watching" my situation. I'm tired of this. Let's get it behind me.

I knew Coker would be on a conference call on my way home, so I called mom and asked if she would help me out the next day and stopped for the car detailing. As I waited, Coker called and asked, "what's going on?"

"I stopped to run an errand. I'll be home soon. I thought you were on a conference call." Can't he wait a FEW MINUTES???!!??

"Baylor Surgicare just called. What's going on?"

Oh. "I'm going in tomorrow. I didn't call right away because I thought you were on a call."

He saw the caller ID and dropped off the conference call worried I'd been rushed into surgery. Wow, that place is fast. The nurse called later and apologized for scaring my husband. She couldn't tell him anything because of HIPPA laws and had to advise him to call me. All is well. Coker was happy with his clean car, but we had to reschedule my Valentine's Day gift: my day at the spa conflicted with my procedure the next day.

Almost. Coker's car has a nice feature: you don't have to put the key in the ignition to start it; the key just has to be in the car. It's handy not having to dig keys out of my purse. At the car wash, I had to leave them in the car so it would keep running without a problem. When I got back in the car, I put them in the cup holder. Big mistake.

That afternoon at 2:05, I began to gather TJ to pick up Paul at school. I couldn't find my keys. By the garage door where they belong? No. In my purse? No. On the kitchen counter? The desk? Bathroom counter? No. No. No. In Coker's car. In Fort Worth. Yes. Noooo! How do I pick up Paul? My neighbor across the street has a kindergartener at the same school. Luckily, I have her mobile phone number and she answered and she was on her way to pick up her daughter. Hooray! Once again, all is well.

That was my Monday. Well, there was that bit of information I let slip out of my mouth without thinking to the wrong person. I'm always better off keeping my mouth shut, so I'll do that now.

Snow Day 2011

We've been iced in for four days. Today it snowed a pretty snow with big, fluffy flakes. Here's the back yard at about 8:00 as I made pancakes.
The boys had different takes on the snow. TJ liked the idea of playing in the snow, but quickly got cold and wet. I know; he needs to zip up his coat. He had just climbed out of the neighbor's car in this shot.
Paul couldn't get enough of the snow and making snowballs. He had to be lured in with the promise of hot chocolate.
Our house covered in snow; not as unusual as I would have thought. This happened last year and the year before, too. (I have tried to zip up TJ's coat by now, but managed to mess up the zipper. Poor little boy!)
Feb 12, 2010Dec 24, 2009 (Same coats! Look how big the yellow one is on TJ here.)I know it snowed in 2007; it snowed the day TJ was born. I can't remember about 2008 and I have no pictorial proof.

Facebook is Good for Something

I checked Facebook this morning and all of my "FB friends" are complaining about power outages for routine maintenance on a snow day. I was not alarmed or even surprised when my power went out for about 15 minutes this morning. Of course, that's when Paul and TJ decided they wanted breakfast. Cereal it is!

Paul climbed into my bed and pulled the covers up saying, "there's nothing else we can do, mom." What? You have two million toys. Ah, no power equals no Wii. He soon remembered one of TJ's new birthday toys and little brother was more than happy to tell big brother how Pixos work.
